10 Rad Female Authors to Read In response to Donna Tartts well-deserved Pulitzer win for The Goldfinch, Time magazine posted an article listing 21 female authors you should be reading. While there are some amazing authors on that list, if youre a book lover like me, many of them are probably already on your radar. If youre looking for a few more solid women to add to your reading repertoire, here are 10 more that you might not have heard of yet: 1. Cara Hoffman In her second novel, Be Safe I Love You, being published this month, Hoffmans considerable narrative talent is on display, as is her feminist bent through the voice of her protagonist. Though there have been many novels about the impact of the Iraq war, few if any focus on the female soldiers and their struggles when returning home. Hoffman is a strong addition to the literary world. 2. A.S. King Kings novels have won just about every award that young adult fiction can win, including a few that arent so usual. Her novel Ask the Passengers was a finalist for the 2012 Lambda Literary award, and just about every one of her books has been listed for ALA Best Fiction for Young Adults. She is constantly pushing the boundaries and worthwhile for all readers adult and teen to explore. 3. Sara Farizan Farizans 2013 book If You Could Be Mine introduced the author as a much-needed voice in YA fiction. The novel tackles the weighty topics of homosexuality and transgender issues in Iran, arranged marriages, and the very real possibility of imprisonment and execution. Shining a light on rarely explored subject matter, Farizans work has become a voice for teens who havent seen themselves in novels before. Her forthcoming novel, Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel (due in Oct. 2014), promises to deliver the same groundbreaking storytelling. 4. Megan Abbott Writing noir crime fiction with a feminine twist, Abbotts Edgar award-winning novels explore things like the gritty underworld ofcheerleading? Yep, her 2012 novel Dare Me explores the viciousness of teenage girldom without resorting to stereotype. Its also been optioned for a movie, and Natalie Portman has been connected to the film. Abbott also puts some academic muscle into her work; shes published a non-fiction title called The Street Was Mine: White Masculinity in Hardboiled Fiction and Film Noir. 5. Leslie Jamison Essay collections are typically small releases, with little fanfare, but Jamisons collection, The Empathy Exams, has gotten the kind of press few writers published by small presses see. Her essays examine the pain of others and how it impacts the self; a memorable essay examines the difficulty of writing about female suffering and why we must do it anyway. Noteworthy and impactful. 6. Sarah MacLean Shucking all of the damsel-in-distress tropes of historical romances, MacLean gives readers heroines that are feisty, rebellious, smart and as sexual as their heroes, particularly in her The Rules of Scoundrels series. And she doesnt resort to bizarre cliches when writing the naughty bits. Now thats a breath of fresh air for every romance lover. 7. Roxanne Gay Its hard to believe that Gays novel, An Untamed State (out May 6th), is her debut, because her writing seems to be everywhere. Shes been published in Virginia Quarterly Review, The New York Times Book Review, The Los Angeles Times, The Rumpus, Salon, and so many more. But An Untamed State a story about a woman who is kidnapped in Haiti and held for ransom showcases her startling narrative talent and marks her as one to watch. 8. Catherynne Valente Best known for her YA Fairyland fantasy series, beginning with the novel The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, Valente has also won Hugo, Lamda Literary and World Fantasy awards for her work. She is also active and vocal in the male-centric Sci-Fi and Fantasy communities, and a huge proponant of the crowdfunding movement. In fact The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland was the first crowdfunded novel to win a major literary award before traditional publication. 9. Helen Oyeyemi Helen Oyeyemi is having a serious moment. Her novel Boy, Snow, Bird is on the surface a retelling of the Snow White fairytale, and it is garnering rave reviews across and beyond the literary world. But Oyeyemis inventive and dazzling storytelling talent is not just evident here. Having published her first novel, The Icarus Girl, before she was 19, shes continued to prove shes a voice to be reckoned with, most recent with her inclusion as one of Grantas Best of Young British Novelist in 2013. 10. Jennifer McMahon McMahons supernatural thrillers are a genre unto themselves, with equal parts suspense and creepiness. Her latest, The Winter People, was published this February, to great acclaim. She also published a lesbian teen novel called My Tiki Girl in 2008 that was included in the ALAs Rainbow Reading list. What other great woman writers would you add to this list?

Friedman Wilhelm Nietzsche was a German philosopher, poet, cultural critic, philologist, and a Greek and Latin scholar. His work has had lots of influence on modern intellectual history and Western philosophy in general. It revolved mainly around art, philology, religion and science. He wrote about morality, tragedy, aesthetics, atheism, epistemology and consciousness. However, some of Nietzsche s most profound elements of his philosophy include his powerful critique of reason and truth. He argued for perspectivism. He critiqued religion and Christian ethics, developed the concept of Ubermensch and the doctrine of eternal return to support it. Also, Friedman Nietzsche came up with his theory of master-slave morality and response to the death of God and nihilism. The philosopher s notion of the Apollonian and Dionysian were prominent as well. The paper discusses, in detail, some of Nietzsche s major philosophies such as master and slave morality. It looks further into his view on nihilism; his definition, why he was so much against it and what he thinks should replace it. Also, the write-up explains Nietzsche s analysis of Christianity as a dominant religion and its teachings. Lastly, it points out the prejudices of philosophers and the relationship between philosophy and truth.Beyond good and evil is a detailed account of Nietzscheââ¬â¢s mature philosophy. Expository Essay Sample on How to Be a Wise Consumer Basics of Expository Essay Writing An expository essay is a written paper that aims not only to reveal the main idea of the narration but also to show all the essential details. This type of essay is used to expand the field of knowledge in a particular area, resorting to descriptions, clarifications, reference to specific sources or actions. Moreover, the expository essay could be a discourse in a necessary field, or through it, it also could maintain the explanations of some essential facts. The main task of the author is to describe the topic in a simple and understandable way, without resorting to personal pronouns and omitting the emotional factor. Before completing the expository essay, the writer thoroughly examines the main idea, analyzes all the facts, compares and contrasts them, and then starts to write the paper on the basis of the received information. Introduction, three body paragraphs, and conclusion are the main parts of the expository essay. The introduction is the most significant part of the work; it should include a smooth presentation of the topic and end with a thesis statement. The body of the expository essay should consist of separate ideas that are supported by reliable sources. The author should resort to various descriptions and detailing of certain aspects of the chosen theme to disclose the topic in a full manner and catch the readers attention. The conclusion represents the consequence regarding the disclosed ideas, and it should not contain new information. Here, it is necessary not to express a personal opinion, that is, to write in a third person. The first step for writing the expository essay is to learn all its features, understand its structure, and get to know what information should be included in the work. Such a stage is fundamental, that is why failing it could lead to a violation of the alleged aspects and components of the essay structure and content. After that, the writer should thoroughly select the appropriate information and be sure of the reliability of the selected sources. Such action will help to enrich the knowledge of the chosen topic, broaden the horizons, as well as determine the main arguments in work. In addition to the previous step, for clarity, the writer could find some examples of the expository essays to see visually and understand how the story should be built, which arguments are significant, and how specific facts are presented. However, it is necessary to consider that the found examples should be on an abstract topic, so as not to adopt other persons ideas at an unconscious level. Moreover, before writing an essay, the writer should make draft or outline. Such practice helps briefly formulate the main points to get a good idea of the information to introduce. In the body of the expository essay, it is necessary to describe the main arguments, so that they smoothly go over each other and deeply reflect the idea of the chosen topic. ââ¬ËHow to Be a Wise Consumerââ¬â¢ Essay Sample For today, shopping has become an integral part of every persons life. Walking through the various stores in search of the necessary product people perceive a considerable amount of information which sometimes significantly influences their choice. Having studied human psychology, entrepreneurs develop advertising for their product or various manipulations aimed at maximizing the impact on the consumer. That is why everyone can fall into the trap and be deceived without knowing it. A wise consumer should understand why the product is necessary, explore its optimal cost, and make sure of quality before purchasing it in order not to be confused or misinformed. First of all, the person should decide whether this product is necessary for him/her and how long it will be used. Being in the store, people find a vast amount of attractive goods that they immediately buy without any hesitation. However, frequently, the fragility, uselessness, or defects of the product are disclosed after the purchase. At the psychological level, it is human nature to be obsessed with the particular things and, therefore, to buy them unnecessarily without any thought. In order not to be full of regrets after making a purchase, the buyer should weigh all its pros and cons. After that, decide how often it will be used and whether it is reasonable to buy it for a certain amount. Some products are popular, and if the person searches it thoroughly, he/she could find a similar one for a lower price. Thus, a clear understanding of the desired thing will help the consumer to avoid unpleasant consequences and make a good choice. Researching the market and the best prices, taking into account the budget and financial capabilities, is another crucial step in shopping. In the store, people in most cases become impressed by the product range and spend a significant amount of money or savings on the particular one. According to the specialists, such method of shopping is not the reasonable and correct step towards spending oneââ¬â¢s funds. To make a bargain, the buyer should examine the available offers and compare the quality and cost of the necessary goods. The right ways to find descriptive information are the Internet, various forums, and review sites. After analyzing the online sources as well as the available places for the presence of the necessary goods, comparing prices and quality, consumers have an excellent opportunity to purchase it. Advertisements are aimed at attracting the greatest number of buyers by all means; however, they do not always contain truthful information. Focusing on the information provided by the company itself about the product since the person can fall for its influence and make a completely useless purchase or buy a low-quality product. In the process of choosing a certain item, it is also necessary to take into account its quality and long-term use. To date, there is a considerable number of methods, with the help of which the person can check it out. An excellent way to verify the reliability is the Internet reviews which show the buyer the quality of the product, its advantages and disadvantages in the example of the experience of real people. Another method is the friends or relativesââ¬â¢ opinion who have previously bought the same thing; they will tell more and give a piece of good advice. In conclusion, the wise consumer always attentively makes purchases considering all the details and steps. Today, there is a considerable amount of traps and troubles into which the average buyer can fall. Manufacturers aim at increasing their profits by any means. In this case, it is necessary to reread the introduction and the thesis, so that they reflect new ideas. Such a method will help to avoid misunderstandings from the reader`s side and make a smooth transition between paragraphs. Sometimes, after writing the expository essay, it is n ot entirely understandable whether the idea is fully disclosed or not, so the person can ask someone to read it. Important Facts About Quebec City, Canada Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, Quà ©bec City is the capital city of Canadas Quà ©bec province. Known for its classical architecture and a distinctive European feel, like most of the province, Quà ©bec City (Ville de Quà ©bec) is the second most populous city in the province after Montreal and the eleventh most populous city in Canada. The Historic District of Old Quà ©becs fortified city walls are the only ones of their kind left standing in northern North America, and in 1985, were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quà ©bec Citys Early History Quà ©bec City was the first city in Canadaà to be established with the goal of becoming a permanent settlement rather than a commercial outpost such as St. Johns, Newfoundland, or Labrador and Port Royal, Nova Scotia. In 1535 the French explorer Jacques Cartier built a fort where he remained in residence for a year. He returned in 1541 to build a permanent settlement, however, it was abandoned in 1542. On July 3, 1608, Samuel de Champlain founded Quà ©bec City, and by 1665, there were over 500 residents. In 1759, Quà ©bec City was taken over by the British who controlled it until 1760, at which time, France was able to regain control. However, in 1763, France ceded New France- which included Quà ©bec City- to Great Britain. The Battle of Quà ©bec took place during the American Revolution as part of an effort to liberate the city from British control but the Revolutionary troops were defeated. This resulted in the splitting off of British North America. Instead of Canada joining the Continental Congress to become a part of the United States, it remained under British authority. Around this same time, the United States began to annex Canadian territory. The land grab precipitated the construction of the Citadel of Quà ©bec which was begun in 1820 to help stave off the American incursion. In 1840, the Province of Canada was formed and the city served as its capital for several years. In 1857, Queen Victoria chose Ottowa to be the capital of Canada in edging out Quà ©bec City, which then became the capital of the province of Quà ©bec. Population, Economy, and Culture Today, Quà ©bec City is one of Canadas largest cities. As of 2016, it had a population ofà 531,902,à with 800,296 concentrated in its metropolitan center.à Most of the city is French-speaking. Native English speakers represent only 1.5 percent of the citys population. The city is divided into 34 districts and six boroughs. In 2002, several nearby towns were annexed to accommodate growth. Most of the citys economy is based on transportation, tourism, the service sector, and defense. Quà ©bec Citys main industrial products are pulp and paper, food, metal and wood items, chemicals, and electronics. As the capital of the province, the provincial government is one of the citys biggest employers. Quà ©bec City is one of the most visited places in Canada. Tourist flock to its various festivals, the most popular being the Winter Carnival. The city also boasts a host of historic sites, including Citadel of Quà ©bec, as well as and numerous museums. Geographic Features and Climate Quà ©bec City is located along Canadas St. Lawrence River near the confluence with the St. Charles River. Due to its location along these waterways, most of the area is flat and low-lying. However, the Laurentian Mountains north of the city offer increased elevation. The citys climate is generally characterized as humid continental but as it borders several climate regions, the overall climate of Quà ©bec City is considered variable. Summers are warm and humid, while winters are extremely frigid and often windy. The average high temperature in July is 77à °F (25à °C), while the average January low is 0.3à °F (-17.6à °C). Average yearly snowfall is about 124 inches (316 centimeters)- one of the highest amounts in Canada.
